Longan (Dimocarpus longan) is a fruit that generally has a very sweet taste that is relatively neutral, making almost everyone love it.
Longan trees begin to bear fruits at the age of 4 years and the maximum production begins around the age of 8 years. At this age, the average longan trees can produce about 100 kg of fruit.
One longan tree requires planting area of about 33 m2 or about 300 trees per hectare. Longan faming is economical to do even though the land should be rented for the long term. In Java, the 12-year land lease gives the IRR results of about 11% with investment value of Rp. 2.500.000,- (equal to $ 203) per tree.
